Family/Church/Civic Introduction To Square Dance Events

Some call it a "Fun Nite" others a "One Night Stand". Whatever you call it, a square dance event designed to introduce NON-dancers to the activity is a lot of fun.

Church adult and youth group programs. Father/Daughter Girl Scout programs. Neighborhood block parties. Family reunions. There are lots of reasons to host a square dance.

From the moment the music starts, your group (large or small) will be dancing. During the event I will teach anywhere from 12-25 basic movements and have everybody laughing, smiling, singing along, and having a great time. All the while, you'll be getting to know eachother and getting an aerobic workout too.

I will tailor my program specifically to YOUR group and work within your personal guidelines.

Here are a few things to keep in mind when planning this kind of event:
  • Each "square" (group of 8 people) needs approximately 12' x 12' of space to dance in.
  • Most beginners events should run no more than 2-2.5 hours. More than that can become information overload.
  • Ask your guests to wear comfortable shoes, and have some refreshments ready for them.
  • I will generally work with your group for about 20 minutes at a time, and then give them 5-10 minutes to catch their breath before starting again.
  • Don't "surprise" your guests with a square dance event. Tell them in advance what to expect. It only takes a couple people who don't want to be there to ruin everyones fun.
